Brussel Sprouts and Missing pieces

This weekend was a big achievement in our household.
We managed to complete the Brussel Sprout jigsaw which has been sitting on the dining room table since Christmas day. It is an infuriating thing which has us casting it aside and walking away one minute, only to find ourselves sitting back down to try just one more piece. So it was with determination and grit that we made ourselves concentrate in one final push to finish it …. except

...except, as you can see above, we couldn't because, like  something out of a cartoon,  there is,  a missing piece. We searched on the table,  below the table, in the packet, but nothing was found. At this point I confess I turn to the dog... anything which goes missing with no explanation is usually in the dog   -but I will never know.

This week began with Blue Monday, when supposedly we are at our lowest , when all the fun and joy of Christmas has disappeared and we are left with something that feels like a missing piece, an empty feeling that doesn't shift.

Maybe that's a good thing however, a time to look for the missing piece, to think about what it might be and to seek...

We are still in the season of Epiphany, when the wise men came to search and were transformed by what they found. God wants us to be complete, to be fully the person we were created to be and we don't have to search high and low, we just need to turn to him and  be open to his love. Then will our jigsaw be complete, our restless hearts come home.

Maybe at this time of year, on our blue days, the gospel is a good place to start.

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10 vs 10
