Donkeys are like buses...

This year at St Mary's Church Great Dunmow we are preparing for a live nativity. Preparations are beginning and we thought you might like to share this journey with us, so over the next few weeks the blog will keep you updated. For those who use twitter you can follow events at  #christmasstorydunmow

Now it stands to reason that one of the most exciting bits about a live nativity is the fact that there will be animals - in particular a donkey and in our minds we imagined a lovely donkey being led through the streets of Dunmow with Mary perched on top as Joseph sought accommodation in some of the towns many Inns.

All was going well until our arrangements until  through unforeseen circumstances our donkey owner had to pull out.  Trying to represent a Middle Eastern scene from over 2000 years ago in Dunmow  has its trials and one of them is the shortage of donkeys so there have been a few sleepless nights until yesterday when  a friend of a friend  offered us  the use of not one donkey but two.

Donkeys are like busses - you wait forever for one to come along then two come together....

Its a lovely story however for these donkeys are from a rescue centre and will not be parted, I think as we get towards Christmas and think about our two donkeys we might be reminded  how God sent his son to us that we might not be parted from him.....

“Love came down at Christmas
Love all lovely, love divine
Love was born at Christmas

Star and angels gave the sign.”
