Water water water

This afternoon I had an exhilarating walk with Macy over the fields in a fierce windstorm with the rain beating down on us . It was wonderful in a strange sort of way.

As we walked the edge of the fields I couldn't help noticing all the different ways the water streamed from the fields.  It flowed in mini rivers and  looked beautiful bubbling over the stones on its way somewhere else . Yet some of it was captured in stagnant pools under the trees, green and brown looking much less inviting.

As I walked I began to wonder if that is somehow a picture of what we do with our belief. When we spread God's word, when we use our gifts it can be alive and transforming , changing the landscape but if we just listen and do nothing then it gathers, stagnant, going nowhere, changing nothing.

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
Hebrews 4 vs 12
