Holiday Reflections

One of the memorable moments on holiday was a trip to the Vatican  Museum. Not for the faint hearted.

My girls would describe it as three  hour trek around more paintings and yet more paintings until we finally reached the Sistine chapel and it looked - well - small.

I have a slightly different view. It was a lot to take in but we were seeing some of the most important art in the history of humanity and so much of it. To  be surrounded by Rafael's and Michaelangelo's was quite mind boggling. And yes when we reached the Sistine chapel we were tired and hot and a little punch drunk and it never quite seems the way you imagined it.

Yet all these bible scenes, the stories I have grown up with, the pictures of the prophets and Creation of Adam, I was transported not just by the pictures but by the power of the stories themselves. It was a great privilege to see these pieces but an even greater privilege to re read these stories today , to be moved by them all over again.

"Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."
Genesis 2 vs 7
