There is a lot of passion around just now, football passion and referendum
passion.
I like to see passionate people, I like people to so believe in something that it takes them over. Sadly in both these scenarios it can spill over into anger and violence, but that aside it is good to see people lose themselves in something they strongly believe in.
Psalm 78 reminds God's people of what he has done through the years but sadly it is a story of people who passionately believe and then become lukewarm and turn away because
"In spite of his miracles, they did not trust him." vs 32
I only have to look out of the window to be reminded of miracles, the flowers blooming and the sea of green as the wheat crop grows leaving the bleak winter landscape a distant memory. Sometimes I can be very excited about my faith and then the day to day gets in the way, the family has a crisis, the ironing pile overflows and I forget and become lukewarm. I have so much in common with the people the Psalmist wrote about.
However I have been challenged by the fact that if a nation can get that excited about a game of football or a EU referendum, surely as Christians we can become equally passionate about what God has done in our lives, the story we have to tell, the things that we believe.
It's not only a game, it's not only a hobby.
passion.
