Patricia flies the nest

While it is a very small thing in this time of enormous events, I have been enjoying the antics of a pigeon  (now named  Patricia) which has been nesting in one of our trees.

Given that we are all here , all the time, as a family we are  a little invested in Patricia and her nest. However, and I say this as no engineer,  it is one of the worst, most haphazardly put together nests I have ever seen with barely any sides and most of the twigs falling down the branches rather than sitting neatly intertwined around it. Still we are pleased to see her as she comes and flies from  her nest day by day.
The irony that we cannot leave ours, has not been lost on us.

I have been reflecting that it is a bit like Noah, who while stuck in his ark, continued to send out the dove  to test how things were in the wider world, until the day it returned with an olive branch in its beak and he knew dry land was in sight. We don't really know when dry land will be in sight for us yet , in the meantime nature carries on; blossoms flourish, nests get built and the month passes, and there is something comforting in all of that.

Patricia's nest reminds me of God's loving promise to Noah that

‘As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.’ Genesis 8 vs 22

It tells me that God is still there, still at work, still overseeing things   and that he has each of us (including  Patricia ) in his loving  hands.
