Good news

This weekend I read in the paper of a student who, in 2004, bred mice in captivity and released 240 of them into a nature reserve around Northumberland in an attempt to reintroduce Harvest mice. The mice however were easy prey to many things, and subsequent  surveys did not find any of them  and so the experiment was deemed a failure. Now however , 15 years later, in that area where there had been no signs, new  harvest mice nests  have been discovered and the conclusion is that they must be descended from the  mice of that 15 years old experiment.

In a climate of rather depressing news, it was good to read this positive story.

In Advent, we join God's people through the ages in waiting, waiting for Christ to come again, waiting for God's promises to unfold. But while we may not see any signs, we can be sure that God is at work in the world. That he is unfolding his plan - perhaps not to our timescale or the way we would have wanted, but  it will be God being God and it will be right.

Deep in the depths of the Northumberland nature reserve, something was happening quietly, miraculously perhaps, as nature did what nature does. I like to think on God's plan in the same way.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable." Isa. 40:28
