Trying on shoes without falling over...

Today I went with my daughter to buy shoes for prom. It is, as the parents among you will know, a very important purchase and so we tried numerous shops to get the right pair.

As the parents among you will also know these shoes are made to be completely unwearable. The height of heel ensures the foot is at an angle which the human body cannot actually achieve. Yet we persevered. The funniest moment came when said shoes were offered for trying but joined together. As this was in the middle of the shop with no visible sitting area my daughter quite rightly perched on the corner of a table only to be told this was not allowed for safety reasons. Quite frankly with two feet joined together and encased in a terrifying strappy pair of shoes with a heel of alarming height which came down to the tiniest point for balance, we had left safety behind some time ago but we tottered off to the changing room as instructed only to wait in a large queue and have the shop assistant unsure whether shoes counted as one or two items.

After all that we didn't take them....

Don't we sometimes put ourselves through all sorts of discomfort for no clear purpose, who are we trying to please.
