Patience and courage

I was reading a story this week which involved the overthrow of a dictator to replace a King on the throne who had actually been in hiding for many years to keep him safe, waiting on the time he could rightfully reclaim the crown.

It was a story from the Old Testament in the book of Chronicles , not a book I am at all familiar with in fact one which I have probably avoided most of my life, but the writer of the notes I was reading made the point about having the patience to wait until the time was right and the courage to take action when it was.

It strikes me this is a much needed prayer in so many situations in our daily lives. Often we want to make changes , to jump and yet the timing just isn't right, and then sometimes when the obstacles finally clear and we can make that jump we draw back scared from the brink.

Jon Ortberg wrote his wonderful book called "If you want to walk on water , you have to get out of the boat." but sometimes we have to wait until the boat is ready even to put to sea and then we might need pushed off the edge.

So Im making this my prayer today Lord grant me Patience to wait and courage to act

It makes more sense to read the whole story but here is just a taster....
"But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes who were about to be murdered and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. Because Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram and wife of the priest Jehoiada, was Ahaziah’s sister, she hid the child from Athaliah so she could not kill him.  He remained hidden with them at the temple of God for six years while Athaliah ruled the land."
