How scary can it be?

Over the next few weeks my daughter and thousands like her will be sitting GCSE's. She will in fact be sitting something like 21 exams in three weeks. Now unless these children are all absolute geniuses it is unlikely they will do exceptionally well in all of them, so some exams by the law of averages will go better than others and some  will not go well.  I found myself having this discussion with my youngest and what I was trying to say was that some things we have to let go, we have to allow ourselves to fail and not let that worry us.


What is it about the fail  word that makes us either kill ourselves trying or not attempt it in the first place? Not everyone has this issue I agree, but a lot of us including myself, do. Why are we so scared to fail, how scary can it be?

Is our own image or self worth so caught up in achievement that failure attacks at the very heart of who we are?

Jesus had three years to minister. He couldn't possibly complete the job, he walked and taught and healed without a plan, a map, a detailed itinerary, a schedule of where his marginal seats were likely to be - he just got on with it. I suspect there were times which he saw as failure, he even warned his disciples that in some places they would not be accepted but not to let that worry them just to shake the dust from their sandals and move on. 

In other words its OK to fail at some things it doesn't change our worth because we all have  gifts that we bring to this world and what matters is how we live and  how we love one another  and to recognise that God cares for us not because we are perfect but because we are not.

We can't succeed at everything and failure may just be a part of our journey.
