Economy and creativity

Grayson Perry's Art  Class was suggested to me by a friend recently and I can thoroughly recommend it. There was a lot I wanted to remember and take away from it; for instance the conversation with the portrait artist who has been doing a self portrait everyday during lockdown. She spoke of how she was using what she had to hand to make her art and that there was a creativity which was emerging from the economy of the lockdown.

I think that is something that lots of people are finding, that not having so much choice is making us be more creative for instance  in our meals, for who doesn't love lockdown surprise - that unique blend of what's left in the cupboard.

But more importantly is the way this economy, this lack of choice, is forcing us to think  about what is really important to us, what we really value. I wonder what we might have let go  that we won't rush to pick up again when it is all over? Or what we might realise we have not valued enough in the past.

So perhaps the truth of our prayer "Give us this day our daily bread", is being revealed to us, that God does indeed give us  provision for the  day and all the other things we add on were not really that helpful..... going forward I will try to remember that ( with the  exception of Lockdown surprise of course ).
