As I was sitting yesterday watching the storm come through I was a bit worried about a very tall pine tree in the garden which seemed to be swaying a bit precariously. Now 24 hours on it is still standing.
I am writing this just before I go to Messy church which is thinking about the parable of building a house on sand or rock and there seems to be a connection. Luckily for us, however much that tree was being buffeted, its roots were secure enough to hold it in place,perhaps the same can be said of us.
There can be lots of things going on which buffet our lives, none of us are immune to knocks which seem to change the landscape, but how we come through them often depends on what we have built our house , where we are rooted.
Christ doesn't promise immunity from these things, but he does promise to walk with us , sometimes that is enough to keep us standing.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."
Matthew 7 vs 24-25
