Hawks and Pigeons

On the dog walk this morning my friend and I spotted two birds on the overhead wires, one was a hawk and was staring intensely at the ground beneath, no doubt sizing up his dinner. The other was a pigeon who was simply sitting looking around. We started to talk about which was the happiest, the bird who always watchful and alert, or the one who simply was.

We didn't reach any conclusions except that it was like Martha and Mary all over again, neither was right or wrong but we need to have a bit of both. The times when we work hard to provide and the times when we are content to just be, it is when we get them out of balance that things seem to go wrong.

I hope the hawk found its dinner, I hope the pigeon accepted what was there for it too, either way, they were both provided for, by God, whose loving care for all his creatures, is also there for us.

"Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Luke 12 vs 7
