Gnarley or gnarley?

I was told by my daughter recently of a mix up of words where her friend had used the word gnarly to describe a grandparent  but meaning ( surfer term apparently)very cool, while we obviously think of gnarled tree trunks and all those connotations.

Different things to different people. Actually this generation seem to have made our words much more positive - gnarly is cool , sick is good - things seem to be getting brighter.

This morning's reading is from James who talks about the power of the tongue and the words we speak, the power to lift up or discourage, to say positive things about people or harmful gossip.
I think it might be something most of us fall down on at some point and it is often related to how we are feeling about ourselves.

When we are at peace with ourselves, we will be kinder and encouraging to others.

Something for us gnarley's ( read it how you wish) to think about.

"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving,considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness."  James 3 vs 17 -18
