While in Budapest this year we took a visit to Momento Park which, if you haven't  been, is an area outside of the city which houses  propaganda statues from the Communist era.

After the wall came down, the people took a wise decision not to destroy these statues but to move them to a park for future generations to see. It is quite a sight, the size of these artworks is astounding and it is chilling to  picture them dominating the squares and the streets of the city in darker times.
It must have been inconceivable to the people of Hungary that their oppression would ever end and yet these statues now stand sidelined and the city is alive with restaurants, shops and tourists.

The old testament writers talked of such things when they recognised that rulers and kingdoms would rise and fall but God would remain. Our statues may not be real in that sense, but we all have our darker moments and  it is  a comforting thought all things pass away eventually but God remains unchanging.

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." Matthew 24 vs 35
